Fashion trends tend to rotate in 20 year cycles, research has shown that this is due to people feeling a sense of nostalgia about their younger days. And guess what! Now, in the twenty-tens the 90’s are making a come back. I can fully relate having lived the main part of my childhood in the 90’s. Some of my fondest memories were weekends spent at the beach, ice cream trucks and roller blades. When it comes to fashion the thought of the 90’s conjures up images of neon, double denim, scrunchies, overalls and chokers. With memories like these it’s no wonder we are seeing a resurgence of 90’s fashion.

Having said all that, when we dress 90’s we don’t want to look like we literally stepped out of the past, the trick is to create a current look ‘inspired’ by the 90’s. And lets be honest, some looks need to stay in the past. One trend I hope to never see again is joggers and jeans, there is nothing stylish about that.

So what 90’s looks should we be including in our wardrobe? The crop top has had a major revival this season. It comes in all shapes, colours, styles and sizes; just about every designer has had a crop top in their collection so you are bound to find one that works for you.

When its comes to the 90’s you can’t go past ‘Clueless’. It has to be the movie of the era, my friends still quote it and seriously, how funky was their style!? Mini backpacks, knee high socks and miniskirts were so cool, and I kind of think the still are!

Denim, denim, denim. I don’t think it ever goes out of fashion but it sure was big in the 90’s. Boyfriend jeans, denim shorts, overalls, ripped jeans and double denim!!! It’s totally trendy. Try pairing some skinny jeans or maybe some boyfriend jeans with a different denim toned top, then contrast it with a brown leather bag or boots.

Finally, I think the round lens sunglasses deserve a mention. These immediately make me think of the Olsen twins, some of the most stylish girls in the world as far as I am concerned. You will find re-vamped versions of this classic style in most shops at the moment. A definite must have!

So if you are ready for a blast from the past grab some of those iconic 90’s pieces and mix them up with today’s hottest styles.
