Flares Are Back The darlings of 70's fashion return

The floppy felt hat, crochet and fringed leather cowboy boots aren’t the only 70’s fashion returning to the streets. That’s right flower children, flares are back.

Flares are back big time

Worry not skinny jean lovers, flares are back however they are now statement wardrobe piece rather than a staple.

Flares have made a cameo here and there on the catwalk over the last few years (the incredible sequinned flares from Ellery’s SS 10/11 catwalk show come to mind) but other than that the most  the most flare we have seen is in yoga pants. It’s a crime really, especially considering they were popular for one really important reason; they look great. On everybody.

Flares are cut to suit all body types

Unlike skinnies which have flooded the fashion world for so many year s now, flares are the perfect pants for all body types. It all depends on the cut of the flare. The bell-bottom works to balance the hips for hour glass shapes, a straighter boot-cut flare makes short legs appear longer, especially when paired with a heel and a high-waisted large cut flare gives shape to boyish figures. Seriously, where and why did these miracle pants go?

Luckily, most fashion lovers are also fashion hoarders so hopefully any flares you used to own are simply rolled up in a box somewhere and seeing as the vintage and ripped looks are on trend it is likely you already have a couple pairs ready to go.

Flares are back for evening elegance

A couple old denim pairs won’t cut it though. No longer relegated to denims and the realm of casual flares are back  in a range of styles that compliment all the current on-trend looks.  Seen worn with the on-trend slouch pantsuit that is replacing maxi dresses for day wear and gowns in the evening, the flare is now sophisticated and elegant, especially in pinstripes, crisp whites, linens and silks. Flares are back and they are all grown up.

The boho flare has never looked so good

This is not to say that the boho flare is gone though. For those who are still hippies at heart or just in love with the modern bohemian look, there is no other area other than denim that flare are back in such force. Florals and lace, super-wide legged and embellished, the boho flare is alive and well.

The flare is back in a big way, no pun intended.
