Make Your Own Skin Care 3 perfect winter products you can DIY

Having healthy, glowing skin is the hottest beauty trend right now and we are talking the real thing, not something achieved with a make up brush. Along with a healthy diet and regular detoxes, skin serums and treatments are the hottest products to achieve gorgeous skin however they can be on the  pricey side.

The solution? Make your own skin care. Sure, there are some things that are simply too complex to make unless you have a degree in chemistry however it is actually possible to make some your own skin care very simply and inexpensively. Better yet, most of the ingredients you need to make them you likely  already have at home. To get you started, see tips on how to make 3 great products for winter skin.

DIY Vitamin C Serum

VITAMIN C SERUM

To help reduce or prevent age-related skin damage, you want to help neutralise free radicals. A good, regular doses of Vitamin C to your skin is one of the best ways to do this and  serums are 20 times more effective than taking an oral capsule.  Try this recipe and make your own skin care serum with 20% Vitamin C:

•              1/4 t. L-ascorbic acid (buy pharmaceutical grade from health food stores or eBay)

•              1/2 t. jojoba oil (buy from chemist or health food stores or eBay)

•              1/2 t. distilled water (NOT tap water)

•              1/2 glycerine (optional but makes it more serum-like)

•              Vitamin E oil capsule (optional – just break capsule)

Simply heat the distilled water to help the L-ascorbic acid dissolve faster and then add jojoba oil, mix thoroughly and store in dark glass bottles with a dropper.  Keep in mind that the first few uses may cause your skin to tingle (anything more than “tingle” means this product is not for you) which is normal and will subside.

COFFEE & SALT SCRUB

DIY Coffee Scrub

If you make your own skin care, a coffee & salt scrub is one of the easiest products to make and perfect for dull winter skin. Giving you high exfoliation and stimulating blood flow, they make your skin super smooth and glowing. High-end brands make beautiful scrubs but those containing coffee especially are pricey. The good news is they can be easily replicated at home. For your own coffee scrub, you will need:

•              1 cup brewed coffee grounds

•              1 cup sea salt

•              Enough olive or jojoba oil or coconut oil to make a solid paste

•              Teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Just mix the three ingredients and leave on damp skin for 10-15 minutes and voilà, you have an amazing and inexpensive treatment for exfoliation which also helps with problems like cellulite and fluid retention.

cocnut oil

DIY Coconut Oil Treatment

COCONUT OIL SERUM

Coconut oil is one of the hottest products for right now, not just on your skin but also hair and nails. We are talking coconut oil in its raw form (unrefined is best) which makes it the perfect product to make your own skin care with as it is so readily available. In fact you can use the same raw coconut oil for cooking as you can on your body! It is the key ingredient to this great simple face mask for winter as it penetrates easily into your skin’s pores enabling rough skin to soften from within.  To make this wonderful face mask, take:

•              1 tablespoon coconut oil

•              2 tablespoons raw honey

•              1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Simply mix together and apply to your face for 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly.  This mask is brilliant to refine skin and smooth texture as honey is a natural moisturiser and fresh lemon juice is a natural astringent helping tighten and shrink large pores.
