SHE'S one of the most sought-after supermodels on the planet, is dating a billionaire more than twice her age and, as of this week, Kristy Hinze, 27, will be the host of Australia's newest fashion reality series, Project Runway.
Hinze, who has featured in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue and is a Victoria's Secret lingerie model, has moved in front of the television cameras to host the local version of the popular US program in which fashion designers compete for the chance to have their work presented to the world."This is somewhere I've wanted to go for a long time," she said. "I've knocked back other opportunities because I didn't think they were right for me but this one came along and I'm so excited by it."In the series, 12 Australian designers must create a range of clothes, with one voted out each week. The winner receives a car, has his or her line featured in a magazine and gets $100,000 to design clothes for the 2009 Melbourne Fashion Festival."It's not going to be easy for them," Hinze said. "It is a cutthroat industry; it is one of the toughest to break into [but] this series is a great launching pad which will put them out there and get [them] known."
