Summer Festival Fashion Essentials The perfect pieces for your festival look this summer

Summer is finally here and in Australia that means more than warm weather…it means the music festival season has started and with it,the summer festival fashion frenzy.

Summer Festival Fashion

Don’t deny it, you spend more time thinking about what is going in that suitcase than your camping equipment and ultimately end up looking super hot but huddling under a tarp.

Who cares about tent poles when there are shoes to pack? Get ready to hit the music scene with these summer festival fashion essentials.

DENIM SHORTS

The Denim Shorts

These will never, ever stop being a summer festival fashion staple. Even Australia’s biggest winter festival, Splendour In The Grass, there are denim shorts being paraded as far as the eye can see in the frosty weather.

Summer festivals however, are the ultimate place to sport this timeless fashion piece for several reasons and not just because they are super hot.

They go with anything…
Bodysuits, graph tees, vintage blouses, boots, sandals, daisy chains… Need we go on?

They can take a beating… Whether you are sitting on the grass, rolling in the mud, or wearing them 5 full days straight, the denim short can handle it.

Denim never fails

They are cool… Summer is hot. Festival activities (including but not limited to) dancing, crowd surfing, cart wheeling or frantically running from stage to stage so you don’t miss your favourite headliners, are sweaty work. The denim short allows legs to breathe whilst still offering the coverage you need to actually perform these activities.

They are hot… It bears mentioning again. Frayed, rolled, ripped, high-waisted, tight, slouchy, hip-hugging super-short, mid-thigh, or covered in mud, the denim short is hot and nothing will ever change that.

The Slouch Hat

THE SLOUCH HAT

Those slip slop slap ad campaigns could never get anyone to wear a hat. However, since a fashion god decided they were the ultimate accessory one must look hard to find a bare head anywhere these days, especially at music festivals. The slouch hat has become one of the biggest must-haves for festival fashion and it has nothing to do with sun protection.

It covers 3-day old unwashed festival hair… Never believe anybody who says they can handle going with unwashed locks for an entire sweaty summer festival. They are lying. They are also the people who are always wearing their super-cool felt hat.

70’s sexy-chic

It’s handy for snooze time… Need a nap between sets? Sharing a tent with 80 other people? Flap of said tent been left open by one of the 80 people you are sharing with? The felt hat doubles as face coverage so you can grab some much needed shut-eye throughout the festival and prevent people from peering at your sleeping face.

It is sexy chic… There is something about the felt hat that adds a touch of class to any outfit. Whether you are wearing a beautiful boho maxi, your favourite graphic tee or a bikini, the felt hat adds that little something. Oh and the wider the brim, the more likely it droops sweetly over one eye for the mysterious, sexy look.

It is shady… Despite that they are worn because they are ‘in’ doesn’t take away from the fact that they actually do that amazing thing hats were designed for; protecting your precious face from those summer rays. This is where fedoras fall down.

The Boot

THE BOOT

As much as the heat of summer begs you to wear thongs to a festival, we all know how that ends – in tears and with a massacred pedicure. A festival is like a construction site; one must wear protective footwear at all times. The boot is a must for your festival outfit.

They protect… Rubbish, particularly discarded beverage receptacles, is both ew and dangerous. Your trusty boot will keep your feet safe so you can do all the important things you need to do at a festival, like kick out the jams run away from people wearing animal onesies and walk back to your campsite in safety.

Any boot will do

They keep you fresh… True, when one thinks of wearing boots in summer heat the word ‘fresh’ is not the first that springs to mind. However, they provide an invaluable shield to your tootsies from mud, dust and general festival goo. Enough said.

They are on & off in 60 seconds…
Don’t be fooled by the appearance of the boot. Unlike gumboots the boot offers invaluable foot wear freedom.  They can be whipped on and off at a moment’s notice for foot-airing whilst laying in the sunshine or tent-diving at the end of a long day of festing. Excellent.

They make your pins look incredible…
Comfort be damned the perfect boot will make your legs look like the sweetest stems around, especially when paired with the perfect denim short, the grungy ripped jeans or a cute baby doll dress.

The Baby Doll Dress

THE BABY DOLL DRESS

The baby doll dress is like the little black dress of summer festival fashion. Day or night, electro or rock, hippie or hipster, this is your staple piece whoever you are and whatever festival you are hitting this summer.

It is sexy…
Feminine, whimsical and youthful, the baby doll dress is the cutest kind of sexy. Floral prints, lace trim and a timeless shape that suits every body type, this is what you throw on if you want to be the cutest girl in the crowd.

It is breezy… The loose fit of the baby doll dress and the light fabrics make them the perfect outfit for warm summer days dancing in the sunshine. Think an outfit with natural air-conditioning. If the summer eve brings a chill, pair it with a cute denim jacket and problem solved. No sweat.

Everyone’s festival favourite

It is effortless… One piece, one outfit. The baby doll dress is the no-fuss piece you can toss on in a second and be ready. No spending hours hunched over in the tent wondering if this goes with that, you are done. Wear it alone or accessorise the hell out of it. It is the easy street of your summer festival suitcase.

It goes with every other piece of essential summer festival fashion…

That’s right, this dress is perfectly paired with all of the above essentials. The  boot, the slouch hat and even the denim short for those who want to crowd surf in a dress. Boom.

Happy festing fashion lovers!
