Double D. The Canadian Tuxedo. Simultaneously the most easiest to wear and most daring outfit the fashion world. Double denim is back in, that is if it was ever really out, and with winter here what better season to rock this timeless look? If you are already, you should be wearing double denim.
Let’s be clear, we aren’t suggesting you do what Justin Timberlake & Britney Spears did back in 2001 by wearing matching denim suits. Mr Timberlake himself comment that he would “…probably pay good money to get some of those pictures off the Internet.” and also, ew. Wearing double denim is easy however see these tips to pull it off without worrying about people comparing you to JT.
KEEP IT TONAL
Wearing double denim can actually look quite chic, especially if you keep it tonal. Wearing all black, all white or all blue. This doesn’t mean wearing matching pieces per se. Now there are so many varieties, weights and shades of denim that you don’t have to look or feel like you are wearing an astronaut suit.
Wear distressed jeans with a lightweight denim button-up shirt in the same blue for a shabby chic look. Fitted blue flares with and with a denim shirt for a classy 70’s throwback look or your black skinny jeans and heels with a black denim studded vest and channel some 80’s rock grunge.
MIX IT
With so much denim around right now, mixing it up is no problem. Wearing double denim doesn’t mean you have to match it. In fact,pairing different colours or shades is one of the biggest trends right now. When wearing blues or blacks, the general rule is wear the darker shade or colour on the bottom, and the lighter on top. Wear a deep blue jean and a pale denim top, or a black jean and a washed out grey top.
The exception here is white denim jeans. The on-trend white on white look is perfectly complimented by a classic blue denim jacket . Pair white jeans and a white cotton tee and finish off with your blue jean jacket or denim button-up tied around the waist. This also works with the all black look. Denim is a monotone outfit’s best friend.
ACCESSORISE IT
The key to the pulling off the double denim look is how you accessorise it. If you are going for the tonal look, you can add splashes of colour with your accessories. A colourful boho clutch, a bright heel or on trend statement jewellery are the perfect way to dress up double denim.
When wearing double denim that contrasts, it is better to keep accessories simple and classy. I n either case don’t forget a bright colour on your lips or nails is the perfect accessory and will a touch of extra chic to your look.
